DIY bag for your camera

I was always a fan of mod. Modifying stuff. Tuning-up to my needs. I’ve done several mods to regular bags. I remember when Krzysiek Tkacz have showed me Lowepro Inverse 200. Small bag. Enought to carry for whole day with nongripped DSLR like Canon 5dmk2 and two lenses. But it was designed as beltbag. So I have cut belt, modified strap and found it almost perfect for one year.

Please note – it’s not matter of making something cheaper then the market can offer. I’ve spend a lot of money on photobags: Thinktank, Lowepro, Tenba, Shootsac – and I’ve found it pretty like Graal’s hunting. The best I have bought since last seven years is ThinkTank Disquise 60. I like it when I take flight for photojournalistic work, wedding etc. but I pretty hate it later when I reach my destination. It’s big. It’s comfortable for carrying all in one bag. 17inch Macbookpro, two DSLRs, 4-6 lenses, 2 flashes. All I need. Less then I want to carry. It takes all it not fit my two doublestrap from reporterstrap.com. When I’d switched to rangerfinders for a few personal projects and now with Leica M9 for most of my work, I have realised that I have no bag for this small setup. Two rf bodies, 3-4 lenses, maybe flash, lightmeter. I almost ended with Artisan bag I have found in Leica Store. Almost. As always trip to Spain was inspiration for change. And the change is now.

So my next mod was convertion of Sfera’s bag bought a year ago in Spain. Basically I’ve bought it for handing around with iPad and some small stuff.

Then I digg in my shelve with bags and have found… Lowerpro Utility Case.

Well it’s too depth even I use only main pocket. so I cut off this so called filter pocket. 1/3 of bag’s depth gone. so it fits perfectly to my Sfera bag.

Well, after convertion – I can event fit two front pocket with two RFs bodies, 3-4 RF lenses and lightmeter inside. and of course iPad 🙂

Then I got this gem. Vaho. Barcelona. ecological. handmade. recycled material. waterproof. made from bicycle inner tires. thank you thank you!

I’ve bought for it expanding insert pad. so from small RF setup up to bid DSLR like Nikon D3s. There is plenty of stuff like padded inserts for bags. The cost is around 15-25 USD with shipping from China/Korea/HG. It’s the same quality as in high prices photobags – at least the one I’ve bought it’s. So it can be camera&lens bag, or just lens bag – up to my needs. four RF lenses, two RF bodies, one iPad. welcome in different world.

with my VAHO gem I have my non-photogeek looking bag. Pretty nice to carry around. Perfect for street and discreet shooting work.

Imagine your perfect bag. Individual. Personal. Unique. All you need is a bag and padded insert. The fashion design is your limit. Chloé Bag? Marc Jacobs Bag? Let me know if you have done something like personal photobag.
